chromel, alumel, kopel alloys
Combining nickel with other metals can significantly improve its properties. Nickel feels great in aggressive environments, which makes it indispensable in the production of equipment for medicine, the food industry, and containers for chemicals.
Types of alloys
The characteristics of the obtained materials are affected by the percentage of nickel and other elements. Among them are:
– Chromel, an alloy containing, in addition to nickel, chromium, in different proportions. It is used in the production of thermocouples and compensating wires.
– Alumel, containing aluminum, silicon and manganese. It is used in the production of thermocouples, for instruments that measure temperatures. Also known material chromel alumel, combining the properties of both metals, which allows you to obtain products with unique properties. Chromel alumel wire is capable of operating at temperatures from 200 to 1000 degrees.
Not infrequently, in combination with nickel, copper-nickel combinations are used. As, for example, kopel, where copper is the basis, and nickel accounts for up to 43% of the composition. This material is used in the creation of chromel kopel alloy, with a working temperature of 200 to 600 degrees. It is used for the manufacture of thermoelectrodes for thermoelectric converters.
