Heat Treatment
Solution Annealing:
955-1010°C (1750-1850°F)
Rapid cooling (water quench preferred)
Aging Treatments:
H950: 510°C (950°F) for 4 hours
H1000: 540°C (1000°F) for 4 hours
H1150: 620°C (1150°F) for 4 hours
Corrosion Resistance
Excellent resistance to:
Stress corrosion cracking
Pitting and crevice corrosion
General atmospheric corrosion
Saltwater environments
Comparable to Type 304 in many environments
Superior to 17-4PH in chloride environments
Fabrication Characteristics
Machining:
Best performed in solution annealed condition
Use positive rake angles and sharp tools
Recommended speeds: 20-30 m/min for turning
Welding:
All standard methods applicable (TIG, MIG, EB)
Post-weld heat treatment recommended
Matching filler metal: ER630
Forming:
Good cold forming properties
Anneal between severe forming operations
Age after final forming
